Do you want someone to make sure you stick to your New Year's resolutions? Try Gym-Pact. The service - which works with various gyms - charges members up to $10 for every day they fail to exercise (they work out a schedule beforehand). On the upside, if you keep your commitments, you get reduced rates at the gyms. According to the founders:
because many gym fees are paid for up front, people tend to give up on working out fairly easily, as they consider the cost sunk regardless of whether they go. But by instituting an immediate daily cost, the motivation behind the penalty drastically increases.
We're worried that we might end up hundreds of dollars in debt each month if we tried this, but, on the other hand, we think it might work because our cupidity exceeds our laziness. Would you try it?
