When I first received samples of Revlon's scented nail polishes I though - "how awesome! I would have loved this when I was younger!" I mean what kid growing-up in the 80s wasn't obsessed with fruity scratch-n-sniff stickers and super-smelly Bubblicious gum?? Now I sort of frown on those kinds of things because I blame them for causing most adults to have a disdain for fruits. Seriously, think about it - if you grow-up thinking fruits should taste like that artificial stuff smells of course you end up being disappointed by the taste of a "real strawberry". Nonetheless, the idea of nails smelling like a high fructose corn syrup take on a grape, strawberry or raspberry seems like - for better or worse - really fun for a little girl (Beauty Snob mamas, please chime in!). Plus, while I was pretty sure the scents wouldn't appeal to me, the colors are awesome and it's not like regular polishes smells like perfume...Unfortunately, I didn't account for the innate urge to smell the polishes as soon as they're applied to your fingers - and yes I also smelled them when I opened each of the bottles too. The result? I thought I was going to pass out from delirious dizziness! Sure you're not meant to smell the polishes until they're dry, but if a grown woman feels the urge to sniff, what's an 8 year old going to do! I would be too scared to give this to a little girl and as for myself - knowing what I know now - I could apply some Orange Pop and not smell it until dry, but when push comes to shove, who really wants to smell like an orange for five days?
